Costs Of Living Up Big Hunk
Rising living costs reached the fastest pace in seven years with a 0.2 percent November increase. Housing clothing transportation and medical care rose while food stayed steady. The consumer price index hit 110.6 and the purchasing power of the 1957-59 dollar fell to 90.4 cents. Deputy Commissioner Myers cautioned future price rises could moderate, noting the December figures loom. Average after tax earnings for three-dependent families reached 98.26 dollars weekly, 90.50 for singles, with prices up 1.7 percent from November last year, the highest annual rate since 1958. Myers downplays Viet Nam war impact and urges price monitoring amid psychological effects. The passage then oddly diverts to a luncheon menu with antipasto and assorted items.

Major Changes In State Feed Grain Program
Nebraska farmers face several major changes in the new feed grain program per University of Nebraska Extension economist Michael S. Turner. Barley may qualify for feed grain benefits at the secretary of agriculture's discretion. price support payments in kind can vary. payments may cover only part of harvested acres. soybeans may substitute for feed grains on permitted acreage without losing price support. land diversion and payments tie more to productivity. disaster planting allows benefits if no income crop is later planted. diversion payments rely on current year yields, not 5-year averages.
