Home repair fasteners for concrete from AP Newsfeatures

Guidance on attaching wood to concrete. Do use more fasteners, expansion shields or anchors, carbide tipped drills for holes, and drill holes matching shield length for tight fits. Consider masonry fasteners like anchor nails welded to perforated metal squares with adhesive. Do not hammer nails directly into concrete without wood, or pound with star drills without rubber, or pause drill speed without removing. Measure screw length as material thickness plus hole depth minus a small allowance.

Irrigated Agriculture Transformed Scotts Bluff County History

Scotts Bluff County, once a small unsettled area, grew into a major Nebraska center by 1950 driven by irrigation and specialized farming. Sugar beets appeared in 1902 with a factory in 1910 after early irrigation efforts dating to the 1880s. The Platte Valley route and Oregon migration shaped its early significance before irrigation spurred rapid growth.
