Washington December 30 1897 a piece notes farmers benefited from Republican free trade repeal and rising exports. It cites higher farm prices since August with wheat cotton wool lard pork beef and other goods improving, mortgage debt falling, and Bradstreets showing gains in corn oats potatoes milk beans peas hemp beef mutton and eggs. It credits Secretary Morton for strong policy aiding seeds beet sugar dairy and foreign markets and forecasts a powerful Department of Agriculture under McKinley.
