A welcome snowfall began Monday afternoon across Cheyenne County with 1.7 to 3.5 inches of snow and moisture ranging from .09 to .24 inches. Dalton reported the heaviest moisture at .24 inches in 3.5 inches, while Potter Lodgepole Sidney and other areas logged lighter totals and lingering white fields. Temperatures fell from mid 40s to single digits, with roads iced or snowy west and south of a Mer riman to Columbus corridor and eight inches near Crawford and Harrison.

United Fund Receives Major Corporate Donation

Morrison-Knudson Co Inc and associates boosted the United Fund total to 15592.87 led by a 972.24 company gift. Benny Hochman, general chairman, said the donation came mainly from company employees. The fund aimed for 17000, but even so the tally surpassed prior records by 2500.

Hartmann Invited to Midwestern Symposium at UNL

Elmer Hartmann, Sidney High School educator, is among 700 attendees invited to the Great Plains Assembly March 12–15 at the Nebraska Center for Continuing Education in Lincoln. The Eisenhower era American Assembly program fosters discussion on population growth and its global economic social political and spiritual impacts with UNL and Columbia University backing. Hartmann plans to attend as a guest of the universities.

Colwell Considered As Democratic Candidate In 3rd District

Dr William Colwell wheat and cattle rancher from Hay Springs has been asked to run for Congress in Nebraska's Third District. If he files he would challenge Republican Dave Martin of Kearney. Colwell, with a degree in agricultural economics, leads the Nebraska Wheat Growers Association and heads the governor's agricultural PR committee. Andrew K Parkansky of Scottsbluff is the sole other filer for the nomination.

Toledo St Bridge Considered Near Sidney Park

The City of Sidney studies a concrete bridge over Lodgepole Creek on Toledo Street just north of the city park. It would have two 30 inch culverts to handle normal flow while overflowing in floods, providing a new route to Memorial Hospital and a straight link from Sidney to State Route 19. Estimated cost by the engineer is a little over $7,200 with construction details to be determined.

Public Road Meet Friday Hearing on 1964 county road plan

Citizens may speak at a public hearing Friday at 10 in the courthouse commissioners room. The county commission will review the 1964 road plan including construction, repair, maintenance schedules, equipment purchases, and priorities, and set road and bridge standards. The hearing invites all interested to share ideas on county roads.

Senators Told Trade School Is Not Needed in Nebraska

Nebraska private trade school representatives told the Legislative Council Committee on Vocational Education that demand for vocational training has not been sufficient to meet capacity. Omaha voices from Universal Trade School and Radio Engineering Institute said many graduates must leave Nebraska for work, while calls for a second state trade school grow. Milford hosts the only state trade school, with industrial leaders noting staff shortages hinder new industry.

Paving District Proposed for Sky Manor Approach Road

Sidney City Council Monday night proposed a paving district to hard surface the Sky Manor approach. The district would include 16th Ave from Birch to Ash and Sky Manor Road up to Sky Manor Addition with costs mainly borne by Sky Manor property owners. Estimated Sky Manor charges total about 8517.50 after city walkway and intersection costs. 97 lots would be assessed. No objections were raised at the meeting.

Perez Caps Honor Grad In Red Leg NCO Academy

Sgt. Juan Perez of Battery B 1st Battalion 168th Artillery Sidney topped a class of 12 at a two Sunday Red Leg NCO Academy graduation held in Scottsbluff. He serves with the National Guard and has 12 years service. instructors included Sgt. Dan Rowan with others named Rodriguez Grothe Cronk Niekum. Major Richard Daniels congratulated him at the ceremony.

Car Train Collision in Sidney Causes $300 Damage

An eastbound 1964 Plymouth driven by Gayland T Crawford struck Union Pacific coach 124 at the Union Pacific switch on Highway 30 at 6 30 p m Tuesday.
