Paul Spearow 65 Dies Prompting Funeral Monday
Paul D. Spearow prominent Gurley area farmer died Friday morning at Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Funeral services set for 10 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Sidney with Rev. Dr. Sidney L. McCaig officiating. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Craig-Holechek Funeral Home in charge. He was born July 24 1904 in Ulysses Nebraska and moved here in 1918. Survived by widow Thelma Barbara Spearow of Greeley Colorado son Bob Gurley daughter Barbara Helfrich seven grandchildren two brothers H Glenn Spearow and Ralph Spearow. Preceded by a son Richard and a brother Herschel.

Standardized Hunting Dates Set for Nebraska Seasons
Nebraska Game Commission standardizes fall openings for turkey pheasant quail and deer and sets August review for season lengths. Turkey opens last Saturday in October pheasant and quail first Saturday in November deer second Saturday in November. Additional openings include cotton tail year round archery antelope and other species with dates ranging from January to October. A 10 day spring turkey season limits to male birds using longbows April 18 through 27 with sun up to sun down shooting. Boundaries shifted to county lines reducing permits in Halsey Red Willow and Lincoln units.

Nebraska December 1969 retail sales rose 15.5 percent from a year earlier with hard goods up 23.8 percent and soft goods 13 percent. Sidney posted an 11.1 percent increase in the state business index, while Columbus led at 14.2 percent. Other cities showed solid gains, with Lincoln 7.4 and Omaha 3.45 percent.

Fire crews extinguish lumber flat car blaze in Sidney
Firemen responded to a Union Pacific side track between 11th and 12th Avenues at 5 22 p m Thursday to douse a fire on a flat car loaded with lumber. A hot box ignited the floor but stopped before burning through or injuring the cargo. No unloading was needed.
