Brick bound over for trial in murder and robbery

Jacqueline Simpson Brick, 23, of Studio California, bound over to District Court after a preliminary hearing found probable cause she and her brother Jerry Simpson, 20 of Cleves Ohio, may be guilty of robbery and first degree murder in the death of Fred Skiba. Both face three to 50 years for robbery and life or death for murder. Witnesses included investigators and the victim’s wife. Brick’s bond remains at 100000 and a jail transfer move is being considered.

Michelle Crittenden Could Become Miss Colorado Again

The Miss Colorado Pageant board stripped Karen Land of Littleton earlier this week and Michelle Crittenden, a Breckenridge cocktail waitress who previously held Miss Sidney in 1976, may reclaim the title. Crittenden, first runner up to Land last year, has not decided whether to accept the crown amid ongoing controversy and prior reversals by the board after questions about her past titles.

College board approves two WNTC Sidney programs

Western Nebraska Technical College received board approval for two Sidney programs the railroad freight car maintenance program and the Marathon Building remodeling project. Revenue and remodeling costs were discussed with bids anticipated and enrollment projected at 23 to 25 annually. Travel and publicity efforts to recruit students drew support from railroads and firms including PLM Inc. and Railcar Maintenance Co. who donated equipment.

Chappell couple marks 65 years of marriage give and take

Clyde and Cecil Pulley of Chappell celebrate 65 years since their Feb 21 1912 Maywood Nebraska wedding. Closings Set for George's Birthday in Sidney

Augustine and Mary Washington of Westmoreland County had a son who became the nation’s first president. In Sidney, banks courthouses city offices and post offices will be closed Monday. The post office lobby stays open but no regular deliveries. Last mail leaves at 4 p.m. and collection boxes are picked up then. No trash service Monday.

Ed Narjes of Sidney is named vice chairman of the Nebraska Republican Party by State Chairman Anne Batchelder of Omaha. The announcement cites his western Nebraska knowledge and county government experience as assets for recruiting qualified Republicans to county and state offices.
