Papillion suit attacks inequality in Nebraska school taxes

A federal suit filed in Omaha on behalf of the Papillion School District argues Nebraska’s school property tax system violates equal protection by taxing some districts at far higher rates for lesser educational opportunities. It cites Rural District No. 66 in Cherry County with 127 times the per student wealth of Papillion and requests a court to halt the inequities and allow time for reform.
