Wheat Crop Offers Brighter Outlook In Nebraska Panhandle
Farm surveys over the past two weeks show winter wheat acreage slightly below last year but outlook improved by recent snows. Devel County leads with 87 percent of normal, while Cheyenne Kimball Banner and Box Butte counties recover from a dry spell aided by snow. Private observers estimate 70 percent of normal in four counties, panhandle acres fell about 13 thousand last fall due to poor seeding, most survived and benefited from late snows.
