A portion of 7.5 million dollars of highway work set for letting on February 28 covers western Nebraska. Dawes County will grade and concrete surface 97 miles of State Highway 19 from Chadron to the South Dakota line. Morrill County gets 14.1 miles of Highway 19 surfaced with bituminous material between Angora and the Box Butte line. Grant County plans 38 miles south of Whitman for grading and bituminous surfacing. Cherry County includes grading and bituminous surfacing for 2.6 miles north of Hyannis, 6.5 miles north of Mullen, and 69 miles north of Brownlee. Highway 2 from Crawford to the South Dakota line will receive 4,072 cubic yards of gravel resurfacing.

Over a weekend in Cheyenne County a three year old from Colton was seriously hurt when a dairy truck backed up and possibly ran over him. At Sidney a nine year old boy suffered a facial cut and knee bruise after stepping into moving traffic. A 22 year old Sidney man pleaded innocent to a reckless driving charge after a one car crash near Sidney left his vehicle a total loss. A collision at 18th Ave and Cedar St in Sidney caused extensive front end damage to two cars but no injuries were reported.
