Curfew Ordinance Tighter Enforcement Outlined

Sidney Police Chief Roy Bauer said the curfew law will see stricter enforcement. The ordinance baring anyone under 16 from streets after 10 pm includes exceptions for travel to lawful assemblies, errands, or work but not for being away from home on a legitimate matter if caught loitering. Detained minors will be held at the police station while parents are contacted.

Sidney Board of Education to hear committee reports

The Sidney Board of Education meets at 7 45 pm in the Junior High Library. Committees will present on graduation requirements scheduling and dual credit classes at Western Nebraska Technical College. The board will review attendance policies, audit results, negotiations team appointment, and science curriculum credit ment.

Panhandle Resource Council Division Boards to Meet

PRC division meetings start next week with a panel on Understanding an Umbrella Organization. Lodgepole Valley Division meets Tuesday at 3 pm at Sidney City Hall. A dilapidated office building and loading chutes are all that remain of the Union Pacific Railroad stock yard in Sidney. Workers began tearing down the barn months ago as faster trains ended yard use, leaving the shell to stand as a monument to past craftsmanship.

Hearing Set On Sidney City Projects

Sidney City Council will hold a public hearing at 7 30 p m on community projects funded by a 1974 act. HUD priorities emphasize housing for low and moderate income families. Fort Morgan plant ends contract closes for now

The Fort Morgan Colorado plant of American Beef Corp closes as the custom killing contract expires. The Omaha based firm filed for Chapter 11 protection January 7. About 50 staff will stay. 400 workers affected. The plant reopened January 22 for custom slaughtering only, with the butchering area remain shut since January 7.

Record cold shatters Nebraska Sunday through state

Sunday brought extreme cold to Nebraska with Lincoln posting 24 below and Valentine at 28 below the historic low. Agate 36 below set a Panhandle record as Park Ranger Rapier notes heat gas failed. The Weather Service cites a warming trend by Monday night with highs 30s to 40s west.

A deteriorating water system on the old Sioux Army Depot property northwest of Sidney may become the responsibility of the South Platte NRD board Tuesday night.
