Sidney Police Chief Roy Bauer said the curfew law will see stricter enforcement. The ordinance baring anyone under 16 from streets after 10 pm includes exceptions for travel to lawful assemblies, errands, or work but not for being away from home on a legitimate matter if caught loitering. Detained minors will be held at the police station while parents are contacted.
The Sidney Board of Education meets at 7 45 pm in the Junior High Library. Committees will present on graduation requirements scheduling and dual credit classes at Western Nebraska Technical College. The board will review attendance policies, audit results, negotiations team appointment, and science curriculum credit ment.
PRC division meetings start next week with a panel on Understanding an Umbrella Organization. Lodgepole Valley Division meets Tuesday at 3 pm at Sidney City Hall. Panelists Les Becker Chappell Bill Patterson Oshkosh and Ron Busch Chadron will discuss local involvement in regionalism and a land use map release.
A dilapidated office building and loading chutes are all that remain of the Union Pacific Railroad stock yard in Sidney. Workers began tearing down the barn months ago as faster trains ended yard use, leaving the shell to stand as a monument to past craftsmanship.
Sidney City Council will hold a public hearing at 7 30 p m on community projects funded by a 1974 act. HUD priorities emphasize housing for low and moderate income families. The council weighs Phase 2 park development, a new refuse pickup system, and a SID 7 street improvement plan. The meeting is open to the public.
The Fort Morgan Colorado plant of American Beef Corp closes as the custom killing contract expires. The Omaha based firm filed for Chapter 11 protection January 7. About 50 staff will stay. 400 workers affected. The plant reopened January 22 for custom slaughtering only, with the butchering area remain shut since January 7.
Sunday brought extreme cold to Nebraska with Lincoln posting 24 below and Valentine at 28 below the historic low. Agate 36 below set a Panhandle record as Park Ranger Rapier notes heat gas failed. The Weather Service cites a warming trend by Monday night with highs 30s to 40s west.
A 28 page Chadron State College committee report reviews alternative governance forms for Nebraska post secondary education. It lists positive and negative aspects of options including merging with the University of Nebraska system and keeping the current Board of Trustees structure. The final decision rests with the Legislature and requires a public vote to alter the board.
Sidney High School senior John A Gormley was chosen by Senator Roman L Hruska as an alternate nominee to the US Military Academy at West Point New York. The selection cites SAT scores grades and extra curriculars with alternate slots used if principal nominees fail exams or fitness tests.
Nebraska educators promote Think Metric Week to introduce students to the international system. A 10 part TV series airs weekly on NET at 8 am with lessons on metric units and daily life changes. At Sidney Junior High eighth grade lessons include writing stories using grams meters and liters.
UNL Career Planning director Frank Hallgren says the job market for University of Nebraska Lincoln seniors will be tougher in 1975 than a year earlier. He notes starting salaries are holding steady or rising in most fields but warns the full impact of economic uncertainties emerged after the first semester.
A deteriorating water system on the old Sioux Army Depot property northwest of Sidney may become the responsibility of the South Platte NRD board Tuesday night. Representatives from Western Nebraska Technical College and Sidney Warehousing and Industrial Sites will meet with the NRD to discuss establishing a rural water district.
