Nitrogen Fertility Trials Boost Corn Yields on New Land
Field tests at the Frenchman Cambridge farm show nitrogen rates of 100 to 120 pounds per acre yielding corn similar to 160 or 200 pounds per acre on newly irrigated land. Zinc and phosphate-zinc treatments raised yields. 11.2 pounds zinc per acre increased output by 28 bushels per acre, a 36 percent gain.

Nitrogen fertilizer boosts corn yields across six irrigated fields
Tests on six irrigated fields show yields from 93 to 336 bushels per acre with nitrogen rates from 8 to 160 pounds per acre. Averages: 117 bushels at 80 lb N, 122 at 100 lb N, and 122 at 160 lb N. Authors urge nitrogen for satisfactory corn, advise soil tests for starter fertilizers, and note zinc addition after land grading may be essential.
