A pretty Christmas program and a decorated tree made the Lutheran church a center of attraction last Sunday night. Miss Allen’s wedding decorations and mottoes framed an evening of recitations readings and music led by Mr. Essig with a well trained choir. The tree behind the altar glowed with wax tapers and gifts for the children. After the program the tree's treasures were shared with patient children, and a large audience departed well pleased with the evening's exercises.
The congregation of the Methodist church held a Christmas dinner at the courthouse on Saturday replacing the usual program. It was well received and run smoothly by the organizers. Sunday morning services followed with a Christmas message from the pastor.
The Episcopal church held a festive Wednesday evening children’s service with two evergreen arches a tall Christmas tree and a program of recitations and singing by Sunday school children. Santa was absent in person but gifts and candy were distributed from the tree by Atkins Pomeroy and Chowins. The crowd filled the church and Rev Bakes received a chamois shirt and sermon crse as gifts from the Chowius family.
Mrs W P Miles hosted a Sunday school class Christmas party for Eva and Mildred with a group of children including Laura Breisch Marguerite Stowitte Mary Sanders Mayme Kelley Annie McMullan and others. The event featured a Christmas tree in the parlor a program of recitation and song led by Laura Breisch and an elegant lunch prepared by Mia Milea. Family and friends assisted in reception and entertainment.

Joseph L Essig longtime Sidney hardware and furniture merchant dies at 76 after paralysis and grippe illness. He leaves wife two sons Lee of Chicago C D of Sidney and daughter Mrs L G Simon. Funeral Saturday from the Essig home with burial in Canton Ohio.
Special correspondence reports A W Lense’s father passing away on Thursday. Visitors Ed Berry and Frank Strong arrive from Wheatland Wyoming to stay with Fred Gilman. Wyoming resident William Wagner returns home claiming plenty of Wyoming contentment. Friday night in town features a wheel and horse race won by Addie Barricklow and Abe Hutchinson. R Thompson and C Wagner win the wheel event. The grippe continues to pose as a common illness. The village’s Christmas school tree is a grand success and a church building nears completion.
