Boost for irrigation and better farming comes to Kimball

Kimball residents are invited to attend two meetings on irrigation and better farming. County Agent Geo Unrun will speak, with support from the State Agricultural School and the U S Department of Agriculture. W C Diesem will address irrigation topics, and J G Beeler and W W Hoagland will cover laws and needed legislation. Meetings run January 7 8 9 1915 with music by the Sidney Military Band and announcements circulated by R A Blake.

Alumni to Play High School Next Tuesday

An Alumni basketball team is organized to face the High School in an exhibition game to raise funds for the High School Athletic Association deficit. Players listed include Null 711 Shoemaker 11 Greenlee 12 Oberfelder 13 Parks 14, all veterans of championship teams, with the Alumni aiming to finally overcome past losses to the fast High School squad.

Sidney Scottsbluff Basket Tie Sparks League Review

The Sidney Scottsbluff basketball game Friday night produced a 20 20 tie after unofficial scoring on a doorway blackboard contradicted by the official scorer and an assistant. The error led to a dispute over the correct result, with the matter to be referred to the Western Nebraska Basketball League governing board.

Fishman Store Closes Under Debt Trust Deed

E P Pardee an adjuster for Burham Muneer Root of Kansas City investigated the S Fishman mercantile store and accepted a trust deed for creditors. The store is locked awaiting creditors action with debts over 25000 largely to wholesale houses. Expect creditors to meet in about ten days to decide next steps.

The K DLS Feast at Pacific House Banquet

The King’s Daughters held their second annual banquet last Saturday evening at the Pacific House with thirteen present. Miss Ella Ericson bride of the week, Miss McMichael of North Platte, Mrs Clark Fuller, and Miss Anne Radcliffe attended. Jonquils and carnations decorated the room as a ten course supper, toasts and music enlivened the gathering.

Village Trustees Hold Regular Session December 18

The Board of Village Trustees met in regular session December 18 with J. J. McIntosh presiding. Bills read approved include John Owens hauling dirt 100. Alec Thompson 23 loads gravel 10.35. Wm. Null street work 12.25. COM Wright water main 700. An ordinance to inspect buildings for fire safety and require report of fires to the State Fire Commissioner was introduced by Trustee Parks. A $30 check from Odd Fellows Lodge for a cluster lamp was received before adjournment.

Railroad Notes and Local Staffing Changes

Sidney Schroeder returned Wednesday from an Indiana vacation and is back at the time clerk’s desk. Glenn Jackson becomes extra hostler helper, while H Musser has left to work in Grand Falls Minnesota. Reports say the U P has locomotives that start cross country. Sunday’s No train collided with a fruit train at Bushnell, four freight cars were demolished, the engine damaged, but no serious injuries and traffic was halted. A freight car shifted and interrupted traffic east of here on Monday night. Tuesday morning three miles east of Rock Springs Wyoming a passenger train collided head on with a freight wreck. the freight wreckage blocked the passenger track, the passenger engineer was killed, fireman injured, three tourist coaches in ditch with no serious injuries. Monday was the Sidney post office’s busiest stamp day. Fritz Stuht slipped from a bale load onto a hay cutter, suffering a deep wound to the foot.

Club Christmas Tree Social Brightens Sidney Women

The Sidney woman's club held a semi yearly social with Mrs Jad Swatzlander as hostess. A Kensington style Christmas tree program featured Miss MccMichael North Platte, Ms Radcliffe from Chicago University, and local singers. Prizes, gifts, and a festive lunch ended a delightful afternoon with lively group activity and music.

Monday hog market day filled livery barns to capacity. teams were turned away, a rarity except at fairs or 4th of July events. Tuesday thaw brought large crowds back to town for Christmas shopping. first warm day in two weeks inviting women and children to town.

Married Left and Erickson Wedding at Harper Home

A pretty home wedding was held at nine o’clock Wednesday morning at the Harper residence. Miss Ella Virginia Erickson and Mr. James Cunningham Left of Macon Georgia were married in a ceremony with ring bearer Nellie Hayes. The bridal party, decor, music, and a five course breakfast followed, with out of town guests from Nebraska and Georgia. The couple will reside in Macon after a cross country wedding trip and Christmas visits. The Telegraph offers best wishes for their future.
