National Award Honors Former County Home Agent Violet Shepherd

Violet Shepherd, longtime Jicarilla Apache Reservation home demonstration agent in Duke New Mexico, received a Florence Hall Award at the National Home Demonstration Agent’s Association convention in Salt Lake City. The $100 grant recognized her pioneer work aiding Apache women to gain employment through home economics training and community integration.

Danny Olsen Becomes March of Dimes Child in Nebraska

Three year old Danny Olsen of Omaha is opening packages with two hands thanks to a March of Dimes funded Clinic for Nebraska Birth Defects Victims at Children’s Memorial Hospital. Chauncey E. Barney named Danny Nebraska March of Dimes Child for 1964. doctors say a prosthetic hand and physical therapy have enabled him to grasp candy and perform daily tasks, inspiring pride across the state.
