Third time's the charm Raiders to meet Bearcats
The Sidney Red Raider Varsity Basketball team opened the season with a 68-39 defeat to the Corad Haymakers on December 7. Sidney then lost to Sterling 90-42 on their home court, dropping to 0-2 as coach Folda plans a rebuilding path. Bruce Hochman sprained his ankle in the Corad game and will miss several games. Chuck Haupt led Sidney in scoring while Jeff O Connell excelled on defense.

Sidney High Masque presents The Mouse Who Didn’t Believe in Santa Claus
The Sidney High Masque and Gavel Club staged a three act Christmas play for elementary students on Thursday December 20. Director Diana Spearow with assistants Carrie Martin and Lila Willis led a cast including Kim Bauman Sue Silvester Marci Bauman Susan Holling Rhonda Skrivan Susan Borcher Allen Henkle and Mike Hare in a mouse Santa Claus tale. Rehearsals ran from December 11 to 18 with Mr. Richard Muldoon supervising. The story follows a mouse who doubts Santa Claus and is eventually saved by Santa. The troupe praised the cast attendance and line learning as the main challenge.

Former SHS athlete named to Kodak All American team
Chuck Wait of South Dakota School of Mines and Technology earned first team defense on the Kodak College Division II All American squad chosen by the AFCA. Wait leads in interceptions with 28 career and 13 in a season, and was a four year Tech starter and tri captain as the team set a defensive record.

Returning champ Kent Talich leads a lineup that includes Dennis Virgil and Greg Houser. The team also eyes a win at Scottsbluff against the Bearcats before Christmas training.

Sidney High Geometry teacher Mr Ron Welch is the ninth year with the Sidney school system. He coaches Freshman basketball and Varsity Track and sponsors Math Club. He holds a BA from the University of Northern Colorado and an MA from Chadron State. He is married with a nine month old baby and enjoys hunting officiating sports.

Pep Club Initiation Sees Sophomores Mock Trials
Thirty sophomores undergo initiation led by seniors on December 4 with tests of endurance. Tasks include kneeling to recite a line, finishing meals, carrying trays, elephant walk and can can during noon events, followed by skits and a pep rally judged for best presentation.
