Christmas Tree Dimmed By Energy Crisis
The 1973 National Christmas Tree will use 8 500 watts instead of 74 000, with lights limited to 6 00 pm to 11 00 pm and a three foot snowflake as the only ornament. Ground lights total 8 1 000 watts around the base, while 57 state trees along the Ellipse will use 200 watts per tree, five hours nightly. The live tree stands 42 feet in Pennsylvania, planted near the White House.
