Union Pacific Strike May Expand Across Harriman System

The Union Pacific walkout teeters between settlement this week and extension across Harriman lines. Omaha Bee reports a crisis point with boiler makers threatening a system wide strike if engine mandates persist, while machinists and blacksmiths show strong cooperation. Sidney Board Seeks Refund of Bonded Debt at Lower Interest

The Sidney school board aims to refinance the district 8000 dollar bonded indebtedness at a lower rate than six percent, but has not yet secured bonds at a favorable rate. Supreme Court Ruling Changes Tax Foreclosure Process

A new Supreme Court decision bars counties from foreclosing tax liens without a tax sale certificate or tax deed from the county treasurer. Purchasers gain ownership subject to the owner's two year redemption right. The ruling overturns prior district court opinions and affects about thirty local cases.
