Bean Promotion Plan for Nebraska Dry Beans Discussed
Scottsbluff area bean growers outlined two successful models for a bean growers tax to fund a Nebraska dry bean research and promotion program. Plans call for a bill to be drawn for the Legislature with a 2 cent per bushel assessment, modeled on Idaho law and the 1940s Potato Development Bill. Sen. Terry Carpenter and Sen. George Gerdes may jointly introduce the measure. David Evertson noted the plan aims to help all bean growers, not just seed bean specialists.
