Old Tom’s Christmas Dinner Tale
A colonial era tale recounts Old Tom chasing a fat possum for Christmas dinner in 07. While Tom slept, another Black man named Big Jim stole the roasting meal and smeared bones on Tom’s face. Tom awoke, puzzled by the bones and the strange flavor, and pondered if the possum had been eaten while he slept. Charles Vernon of Sidney Draw shipped a load of fine Hereford stock to Omaha last week.
