Nebraska OKs General Route for I 80 From Big Springs to Wyoming
The Nebraska Highway Advisory Commission gave general approval Monday to a proposed Interstate 80 corridor from Big Springs toward the Wyoming border, running near U S 30. It would cross into Wyoming near Pine Bluffs while seeking further studies in Lodgepole Valley and around Kimball to decide if a valley bypass is better. Strong irrigation interests urged caution over valley routing, and a possible shift north of an Atlas missile base near Kimball is being considered. Work on the segment is not expected before 1967 and could take five years, with design and right of way to follow once the corridor is fixed. The commission also indicated approval of the double interchange at Sidney, with no evident opposition at state or federal levels.
