New Swiss Pass Opened To Cut Travel Time
The Nufenenpass becomes the highest open route in Switzerland at 7,320 feet linking Valais and Ticino. It saves drivers about 19 miles and up to two hours, reachable from Ulrichen in the east or Airolo in the west. The 22-mile shortcut replaces two northern passes to Airolo and is steep and scenic, not advised for inexperienced mountain drivers. Originating as a 14th century mule trail, the pass marks a historic route.
