Sub-Zero Snap Leaves Wheat OK Despite Cold

Farmers in the southern Panhandle report no widespread worry over winter wheat after sub-zero readings. Wheat is in excellent condition, though unprotected fields may be damaged. Corn and milo harvest nearly finished nationwide, with some areas still delaying due to weather. Snow will hinder remaining harvests while field losses grow as stalks weaken. Moisture is ample, and snow will protect crops from further low temperatures as grain moves to elevators.
