Nonresident land owner signatures slow the process as 1836 forms mostly become contracts. About 200 left to sign, with nearly 50 more ready to mail to Washington. If approved, checks could arrive before Christmas. delays may push payments to after the new year. Merchants report holiday activity deferred until funds arrive.
Federal Land Bank Commissioner A S Goss says an independent three man commission will resurvey land appraisals in the district to determine loan adequacy for farmers. If loans are found insufficient more loans may be issued, otherwise Congress must decide. Creighton County and nearby towns continue CWA relief efforts with funds and new jobs promised. Sidney plans additional storm sewer materials and crews work on flood control ditches and highways.
Senior students of St Patrick s academy will present a public musical concert in St Patrick s auditorium Sunday night December 17 at 6 o clock. The program includes orchestral works, piano solos, violin and cello pieces, vocal solos, and readings by S P A students with Kathleen Sokol Martha Smith Rita Bush Helen Peetz Mary Morris Enned Rodgers and other performers.
Robert Livoni Hurt son of Mr and Mrs John Livoni recently injured at Fort Robinson CCC forest camp when a felled tree toppled on him. He is not in danger and appreciates letters from friends and his parents request.
The 1934 license plates were received this week and will be offered to car owners once receipt forms arrive, announced by County Treasurer Louis Wasem on Wednesday. The plates feature white numerals on a dark green background for an attractive look.
Lincoln dispatch reports Nebraska may receive no further public works allotments without new federal funds. Attorney General Good says Nebraska’s funds are frozen. state quota of 29 million allocated but only 22 million used. An interior official says no immediate chance for federal money for construction at Nebraska institutions under the board of control.
City Athletic club nears opening with about 80 members signed up and 100 expected once operations begin. Basketball goals installed and equipment invoiced to E R Woolley. Plans include a city league with Safeway stores and Western Nebraska Oil teams already forming squads and arranging out of town games. The high school will host home games, making the auditorium busy this winter.
Sidney Sea Scouts joined a scout circus in Sterling Tuesday night the first of its kind in the city. Local troop impressed with snappy drills and exhibitions. G F Liebendorfer and Jack Poole accompanied the boys to the Sterling gathering. Iven Robinson also brought a carload of scouts including Garvey Rabe Christ Green Bushong Duffy and Cub Scout Dick Robinson to observe.
Meat buyers and dealers who do not join the corn hog plan will shoulder the tax, while signers can use benefit payments to offset their share. Processors, wholesalers, and retailers face higher per unit costs and may raise prices or cut demand. Consumers may choose to reduce pork and corn purchases as taxes shift through the supply chain.
The Lions club laid plans for a county rabbit hunt on New Years Day appointing G B Wookey W D Powell and F A Bush to organize. A meeting is set for next Tuesday at 7 30 pm at the Cheyenne County Lumber company office with county representatives and editors invited to boost publicity. The west half of the county will be divided into a square including Sidney Calton Potter and surrounding areas.
Farmers Union members will hear annual reports on the past year. President Robert Robertson and secretary Arthur Borcher urge all members to attend the meeting in the city auditorium. A noon intermission allows members and their wives time for dinner. A good program is planned.
Gering high school football selects a 16 man all opponent team featuring toughest foes faced by conference runnerup Bulldogs. Included are two Sidney players, along with selections from Alliance Scottsbluff Morrill and Stilley. Notable names: Smith Scottsbluff, Height Alliance, Berggren Sidney, Green Alliance, Burden Morrill, Moore Alliance, Williamson Alliance, McNish Sidney, LeFleur Scottsbluff, Caciezel Morrill.

Stores promise strong values on thousands of items, urging penny saving, employment support, and shoppers staying open late through the week. Next week some stores will extend hours to 9 PM per NRA code privileges.
Sidney and Cheyenne county authorities arrested Frank Smith and William Towman of Sidney in Sterling on burglary charges after they were seen stealing from parked cars. A saxophone stolen from S. P. Hunt was recovered. the pair confessed to pawning the instrument for ten dollars and are to be questioned by the county attorney in Sidney about several auto thefts. Police planned to prosecute them in Sidney, with Sterling authorities stepping back.

Voters split over the idea, with some faulting Congressman Carpenter for calling the election while others see it as the method to express public preference. A prevailing belief holds that residents from other towns should not decide Sidney's post office, yet a democratic central committee must represent the whole county. J. S. Steele of Kimball was a genial visitor in our city. He plans to enter the race for state representative for the district. He was swept out by the democratic landslide last year but was highly satisfactory in office. He supported western Nebraska measures and fought for beneficial policies. It is doubtful Republicans could find a more capable man for the primaries.
Travel officials report a sharp rise in passenger volume after the December 1 fare cut. Interstate Transit lines traffic manager E J Condon says a near 50 percent jump occurred in the first two weeks, prompting new schedules to handle added business. Officials expect holiday travel to be the heaviest in years as equipment is readied for a record flow.
The Lions Club reports 300 toys reconditioned and given to poor youngsters this Christmas and plans a local toy drive Saturday to collect more. Youngsters will canvass every home. residents urged to have toys ready for distribution and to cooperate with the calling team.
Lodgepole hosts the Sidney Maroon cagers in a likely close game on home court. Sidneys veteran lineup of Captain Thomas Carlson Witters McCleneghan McNish and Bonham faces a Panthers squad led by Minshall Black Talish Wise Ammerman Bale and Orr. Drills begin next week as Sterling eyes a follow up win after a warm up rout of Haxtun.
Henry Hink of Bayard died at a local hospital Wednesday night after a long illness. A brother of Otto Hink of Sidney, he is survived by his wife and two sisters and one brother. The body will be shipped to Iowa for burial. Gehrig funeral service has the body.
Funeral services were held from the Potter Methodist church Tuesday afternoon for Donald A. McMillan, 23, who was instantly killed in an automobile crash west of here early Sunday morning. Interment was made in the Potter cemetery. Rice funeral service in charge.
