SPNRD to Discuss Oliver Project at December Board Meeting

The South Platte Natural Resources District will host a public meeting Tuesday night at 7 30 in the SPNRD office 1840 Illinois Cheyenne Kimball and Deuel counties will be served. The agenda includes a land and water resources committee report on forming a task force and newsletter, plus surplus equipment policy and a manager training seminar and reports from the Natural Resources Commission Soil Conservation Service and Panhandle Resource Council.

Sidney City Council Sets 7 30 P M Meeting Agenda

The Sidney City Council will meet at 7 30 p m to sit as a board of equalization and consider a paving district assessment, review truck parking ordinance, authorize swimming pool bonds, and approve first phase engineering payments to Olsson Associates. It will ban parking on certain lane sides, discuss sanitation building payments, sewer and water extensions, planning commission referrals, plat acceptance for Parkland lots two and three, zoning changes, and appoint Floyd Sanks to the Southern Panhandle Groundwater Task Force.

Chappell elevator aids Hunger Appeal with wheat gifts

Nebraska CROP aims to ship 40 000 bushels of wheat from Chappell to Vietnam as part of a national drive to deliver 10 000 metric tons. Sidney man found dead outside his home Friday

An elderly Sidney man Leroy Maxwell Johnson 72 of 908 Grant was found dead outside his home Friday afternoon. Cheyenne County Sheriff Oren Cox said the body was found after a caller alerted Sidney police. Temperatures dropped to 12 degrees overnight and foul play is not suspected though an autopsy decision was pending.

Colorado eyes gasohol plant in northeastern region

The Colorado Wheat Administrative Committee says Gov Lamm may seek 40 000 to study an experimental gasohol facility in northeast Colorado. Plans include four Agriculture Department plants nationwide using surplus grains to produce alcohol for blending with gasoline, with a pilot at about 20 million gallons annually and 5 million bushels of wheat usage.

Lewis Wilson Cheyenne County CROP treasurer reports a current drive balance of 3473 dollars 27 cents with 2094 71 collected for hunger walk and 834 50 donated in lieu of wheat plus 156 in miscellaneous gifts. Beginning balance was 51 dollars 56 cents and 128 50 has been paid out during this campaign.

Thousands rally as Nebraska farmers push for parity

Thousands of Nebraska farmers gathered in Lincoln for a 22 hour rally to pressure for fair farm prices. Mike Booth of the American Agriculture movement estimated more than 6000 in attendance and 5,002 vehicles parading to the nearby Sports Center. Governor Exon urged sustained grassroots action, noting the movement seeks fair consideration for American agriculture and family farms.
