Interstate hearing set over Nebraska route choice
Sidney and Cheyenne County plan a sizable delegation to the Ogallala highway hearing as officials push a south of the Platte route from Brady to Big Springs Junction. Western Nebraska groups urge a north route, arguing cost and local impact, while Sen. Lewis Webb supports northern alignment citing lower fill costs and better grades. The North Platte area and Kimball/Sidney backers push for northern routing despite state engineer John Hossack favoring the south path.

K-12 Program Battle Lines Being Formed
About twenty five Cheyenne County residents attended a Bridgeport meeting where Nebraska School Improvement Association officials vowed to oppose forces seeking to restrict local school boards. The NSIA targets the Nebraska State School Boards Assn which backs a petition for compulsory K-12 re districting across all districts. Critics in sparse population areas fear loss of local standards and local control. NSIA plans a Lincoln protest during its January convention to urge opposition to the plan. A key objection notes that country districts joining to build facilities is not seen as reorganization by the State Board.
