Pipe Lines Bring Most Crude Oil to Market
Interstate pipelines dominate crude oil transport, with 1921 reporting 55,260 miles operated by 33 companies and a total investment of 052,138,804. Expect 1922 to exceed 60,000 miles. Main trunk lines move oil from producing fields to terminals inland and offshore, aided by smaller gathering lines and pumps. Heating heavy oil is needed in California due to higher viscosity, reducing pumping intervals from 35 miles inland to 12 miles in some areas.
