Mormon Trek Wagon Train Passes Through Western Nebraskans
A St. Cloud Minnesota family traveling to Salt Lake City with eight children and four wagons, 16 horses, and an electric setup passed through Sidney and nearby on a weekend journey. Orin Gulbranson led the caravan with two daughters in the second wagon, Mrs. Gulbranson at the reins, and another daughter on horseback carrying a Slow sign. They left July 4 and hope to reach Utah by September 22, camping along Highway 30 and stopping briefly for supplies in Sidney and Potter.

Cheyenne County’s oil wildcatters ended a streak of luck with the No 1 Shorts well near the Rudolph Field when Vincent and Welch plugged and abandoned it after three consecutive dry holes. Previous successes included the No 1 Jacobsen the No 1 Wath and the No 1 Maude Laing as the region sought to revive production in a returning field. Nebraska daily output reached 68,499 barrels last week, a slight drop from the prior period.

Mrs Archie Herboldsheimer of 14th Street won a $10 gift certificate at Lee Stores. Winners were chosen by Carry Kruter and Randy Albright as they passed the Chamber office. The promotion ran from August 16 with participation from all Chamber members.

Two Mishaps Haunt Family's Vacation

Two Cheyenne County Road Projects Hit State Bids
Apparent low bidders on more than 2.8 million dollars of highway work were opened by the State Department of Roads last week. Cheyenne County projects include Western Bridge and Construction with a 7119 bid for a US 385 bridge extension near Gurley and M A Nichols at 74597 for grating and culverts on the Lodge de Bula segment of US Route 30 in Cheyenne and Deuel counties.
