Mrs A F Miller found her year old Dale face down in a porch tub of rainwater after hearing a warning voice. Peerless rescuer Manx Peare revived the boy after two hours of effort. the child survived and the family credits Peare with saving his life.
Mrs Gus Range was taken to Denver on Sunday and on Monday at ten o'clock underwent a bowel cancer operation. She rallied nicely from the shock. The last word to her family was that everything was in her favor with favorable blood pressure and heart condition and good chances for a complete recovery. The operation offers new possibilities for help. Runge's son Harry and her niece Rose Morgan accompanied her and observed the medical care and surroundings.

Nels Hammer longtime North Platte resident and former Union Pacific roadmaster died last Monday night at his Omaha home after recent relocation. Survived by wife and two daughters Mrs Ahrens of Sidney and Freda at home. Funeral Wednesday at Swedish Baptist chapel with many floral offerings. Interment Valley Nebraska. Hammer was father of Mrs E A Ahrens who with family attended his final hours. Relatives extend sympathy from Sidney friends.
E C Stockwick came back Tuesday from a visit to Denver and nearby areas, returning with no stated incidents or additional details.

Joseph A Wolfe in town on business, to return to Boulder. Chancellor Oeschger of Corner University visits briefly en route to Salt Lake City. Mr and Mrs Charles Roth travel from Boulder for business before returning home. Clarence Bush and wife of Rupert Idaho visit the Miller family en route to Bartley. Mrs Harry Selch and children return from Bayard with the Pipher family.
The Methodist ladies held a Wednesday evening lunch at the church parlors that drew crowds up to their fondest hopes and netted a satisfying sum.
N. B. Statler and his wife were called to the country north of Lodgepole in Garden county by the death of Mr. Statler's mother who had suffered for many months.
M and Mrs Guy Kinch and Mrs Mary Seeger of Harrisburg paused their trip Saturday to visit the Ayle brothers, their aunt and cousins. They planned to continue onward to South Dakota for a further rendezvous.
Mrs Gould was moved to Omaha again by her husband last Friday night as her condition did not improve after a prior operation three weeks earlier. Reports indicate her case would be watched for a few days and a second operation was planned for Thursday.
Mrs D Worden and her daughter Elizabeth left Wednesday for Norfolk to visit Mrs Worden's parents Mr and Mrs M J Sanders for ten days They will return before school opens Al Benish opened a new business Saturday in the Neubauer building The front uses temporary windows due to delayed plate glass shipments and high demand.
The county judge processed two cases of plain intoxication and two cases involving fighting amid eye-water inhalations. All four defendants received the usual penalties. The latter two cases stemmed from a Gurley celebration.
O D Stafford and family of Brule and Mrs iate Barker with her granddaughter from Rising City paused their Colorado mountains trip for dinner Wednesday with Mr and Mrs Frank Stafford.
Saturday night the Van Gorder orchestra provided music for a dance at Sunol attended by Sidney dancers. The ensemble features G. D. Van Gorder L. A. Bartholomew Alford Bentley and Miss Dorothy Hart.
Mr and Mrs Will Stafford spent Sunday with relatives Frank Stafford and a family. Mrs Iam Stafford, mother of Frank, returned Sunday evening with visitors and then continued to her home in David City after a month long stay here.
Leon Fine returns from a vacation and business trip visiting Chicago Kansas City and Tulsa Oklahoma. He spent substantial time in Chicago and made purchases from wholesale houses for his Fashion Shop.
Mr and Mrs Schulenberg of Shu bert Nebraska are in the city and vicinity visiting their son Louis of the north divide. They are impressed with the country and have decided to move to Sidney, planning to buy or build a home.
Miss Vera Foster came back Sunday from a six week visit in Portland Oregon. She toured several places and enjoyed the trip. The young Ruth Ericson who traveled with her stayed on for a longer visit with her mother.
Fred Speck of Rutland Illinois visits this week, owning two quarters of Union Valley land that yields a steady rental income. He has held the property for years and is impressed by local opportunities.

P. R. Dowell and Charles Redfern, both now with the Custer County Chief, were in Sidney Sunday en route to Julesburg to assume charge of the Grit Advocate they recently purchased. They appear capable and practical, with Julesburg seen as a promising field for merit and success.
Co. M. Day of Denver, manager of Adams Express, spent Friday in the city in official capacity and praised Sidney as the liveliest little burg on his route. R. W. Kelly and party from Peru, Nebraska, paused Thursday on their way home from the mountains, with Mr. Kelly seeking friend J. D. McMillan. A auto trip started with twenty-one travelers, shrinking to twelve by Thursday. Mrs. Caspar Cirmann and her niece of Chadron spent Monday in Sidney, visiting friends and lodging with Mrs. Frank Wiser and family.
Mildred Mae McCann wed David A. Jones on Wednesday August 23 at two o'clock. Officiating was Rev J. S. Jones of Dickens Nebraska with no attendants. The couple and family hosted a three course luncheon and left for Brush Colorado then Omaha and Lincoln, returning by mid September.
James Robert Peacher of Bridgeport and Dorothy Guthrie of Grand Island wed at 7:30 Sunday morning August 20 at the parsonage. Reverend A J May of the Methodist church officiated. Peacher is Bridgeport Telephone manager and the couple appeared upright and efficient, promising a happy home.
John W. Castleberry and Dewyna Rogers of Padroni married here on August 16, 1916, with County Judge Chambers officiating.
A teachers meeting will be held in Room 1 of the high school building on Monday September 4 at 2 00 PM. The school opens the following morning Tuesday September 5 at 9 00 AM.
