Pioneer South Divide Couple Named Old Settler King and Queen
John and Emilie Hornicek of Lodgepole were chosen as the 44th Old Settler King and Queen for Lodgepole Nebraska. The couple, longtime neighbors southeast of Sunol, have six granddaughters and one great grandson. They recall homesteading era life, coal and wood scavenging for winter, and frequent visits to town at the Hornicek barn. The celebration honors their Czech heritage and years of community involvement in Masons, Legion, Eastern Star, and local schools.
