Gurley youth Kim Ahischwede’s Hereford steer Alexander won grand championship at Cheyenne County Fair. Reserve went to Lina Bayne’s Angus Thunder. Dalton’s Marylynn Weed won dairy grand with Guernsey Jennie Lynn. Chief Judge Dave Williams, Univ. of Nebraska. Fair opening cooler weather drew large crowds amid livestock shows, horse events, rodeo, and a Saturday schedule of parades, sales, and contests.

Subscriptions Sought In Sidney Telegraph Campaign

Seventy two youths in the Sidney trade area entered the Telegraph subscription drive. A girl reported eight new subscriptions and a boy sixteen in two days. The contest runs to October 1 with prizes like bicycle radio wrist watch and cash. every entrant winning at least one sub gets a prize. Eight thousand papers were mailed Wednesday to recruit subscribers.

New Manager at J. M. McDonald Co Store in Sidney

Arnold Ring resigns as manager of the J. M. McDonald Co store in Sidney effective today. Gordon Bonser, from the North Platte McDonald store, will take over as manager. Ray Watkins, district manager, announces the change. Ring plans future announcements. Bonser is from Bertrand Neb with a wife and two sons. Sidney will house them when housing found. The chain now operates 107 stores with new additions in metro shopping centers.

Rites Held At Kearney For Mrs Story's Mother

Funeral services were held in Kearney for Mrs. Clara Kincaid 85 mother of Mrs. C A Story and grandmother of Mrs. R C Cunningham both of Sidney. She died Friday morning in Kearney where she had lived most of her life after two years of declining health. Survivors include another daughter Mrs Elmer Rose of Kearney two sons Harold of Kearney and Ray of Cheyenne 14 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.

Wayne Bond Named New Lodgepole Lions Club President

Wayne Bond has been named president of the Lodgepole Lions Club succeeding Roy Bills who resigned last week. Bond was selected by the Board of Directors after previously serving as first vice-president. The resignation moved all current officers up one rank with Lew Quinn as first vice-president, Ed Brock as second, and Don Hafler as third.

Dorman Farm Home Burns in $4000 Loss

Alvin Dorman farm home ten miles southeast of here suffered more than four thousand dollars in damage when a fire started while the Dormans were away. Neighboring farmers and firefighters battled the blaze with bucket brigades. contents and building were a total loss. Firefighters from Crook and Peetz responded as Sterlings prairie fire drew 500 men away.

Meanest Man Strips Garden in Lodgepole Nebraska

Lodgepole Nebraskan reports the so called Meanest Man visited Monday night and vandalized Dick Schlaman and his wife garden. The couple aged 82 and 70 saw months of work ruined as tomatoes onions and cucumbers were stripped. They rely on the garden for pride in retirement.

Bond Sales Lag In Western Region In First 7 Months

Seven western Nebraska counties reached 537 percent of their US Savings Bond quota by July end led by Kimball County with 681 percent and 318 188 in sales. Other counties followed including Garden Scotts Bluff Deuel Cheyenne Morrill and Banner with varied totals and percentages. Nationally sales rose while redemptions fell for the third consecutive month versus a year ago.

SOD Employee Is 100000th Patient At Bluffs Hospital

George Horacek a mechanical engineer at the Sioux Ordinance Depot in Sidney became the 100000th patient admitted on August 17 at West Nebraska General Hospital. He received a private AC room with flowers radio and television. The first patient admitted in 1924 was Donald Drucker from Mitchell. The hospital reports 4500 admissions last year with about a quarter from outside Scotts Bluff County as it expands with a two million dollar development program to upgrade facilities and services.
