Conservation Use To Boost Acre Payment
Lincoln Nebraskas extension economist outlines a 1962 Wheat Stabilization program option. Farmers divert 10 percent of wheat acreage to conservation, receiving payments based on county support rate for No 1 wheat, per acre yield, and diverted acres. Payments can be cash or in wheat, with sale penalties only if chosen. County offices provide specifics on provisions. The diversion payments depend on a two thirds nationwide vote on August 24, and regardless of the result, farmers must cut 1962 wheat acreage by 10 percent to qualify for price support.
