County Clerk Slawson completes the selection of election boards and counting boards for August primary and November general elections. Counting boards will operate in precincts with over 100 votes, starting four hours after polls open, to speed canvassing. Joint Institute for Two Counties Planned in City
Mrs Betta Brown of Chappell met with County Superintendent Anna Mc Fadden to discuss a joint institute for Devel and Cheyenne counties teachers. The event will be held in this city starting August 26 for five days with a strong program led by President Robert Elliott of Chadron State Normal School and instructors Miss Edna Durland of Omaha City Schools and Miss Ethel M Simpson of Corning Iowa City Schools.

A Washington dispatch reports a proclamation by the president, issued under the date of August 24, ordering all youths reaching 21 years since the second registration to register on Saturday August 24. Provost Marshal General Crowder enforces the order to hasten class 1 recruitment, with about 170,000 young men expected to register and likely join army within a month after records are made.

County Boys Off For Special Training

Judge Hamer Dies in Kearney at 75
Judge Francis G. Hamer associate justice of the Nebraska supreme court died at Kearney Saturday evening from stomach cancer. He was seventy five years old and long a prominent figure in the Nebraska bar, with an extensive Sidney practice years earlier.
