Cyclist Robert Lee Hall on a 3700 mile detour from Maryland to Alaska faced financial ruin in Sidney before telegraph sponsors offered help. Residents in the Sidney area observed the United States Echo I satellite moving across clear skies. Reports describe a large balloon in orbit visible around 11 40 p m and again between ten and eleven p m with a faint comet like trail.

Northwest Nebraska delegates at a Nebraska State Highway Commission meeting in Bridgeport pressed for four long neglected road projects. Wyoming Man Jailed On Check Charge Here

Worland man Edward Lee Husman a former Sidney radio announcer was bound over to district court on check charges. He appeared in Cheyenne County Court and is jailed in Cheyenne County awaiting trial with bond set at 200 dollars.

Appreciation Day for Sidney Teachers Set on Sept 2

The Sidney Chamber of Commerce announces an Appreciation Day for the school faculty Friday September 2. Oil Field Opener Near Potter Reports Fifth Cheyenne County Find

An apparent oil discovery on the Millard Musil farm five miles north and two east of Potter marks Cheyenne County's fifth find this year. Exeter Drilling Co and Petroleum Inc report 54 inch casing at No. 1 Musil after a J sand test yielded 167 feet of free oil, 3,275 feet of gas and ten feet of mud with no water detected.

Gulley-Washer Ends Month Long Drought

Rain from a Sunday Cheyenne County storm brought up to .8 inch in parts with traces elsewhere. Sidney reported .66 inch, while Potter had about a half inch and Lodgepole about .05. The system stirred winds, dust, and thunder, offering hope for relief from drought and benefiting next year’s winter wheat planting. A pilot also sighted a funnel cloud southwest of Sidney, though no tornado damage was reported.

Wildcat oil site named in northeast Cheyenne County

The Nebraska Oil and Gas Commission last week permitted sixteen new drilling locations including a wildcat site fourteen miles north of Sunol in Cheyenne County. The No. 1 Scheeler location in section 13 16 48 lists William Meakins as operator. Three other Cheyenne County sites also appear on the commission list.
