Obituary of John Culkin Sidney Business Leader 1869 1914
John Culkin, a well known Sidney business man born in Illinois in 1869, died August 12 1914 after weeks of illness. He moved from Omaha to Sidney five years ago to run the clothing department at Sidney Mercantile. A devout Catholic, he leaves a wife a daughter Gertrude two sisters and a brother. Funeral was held at St Patrick's church with high requiem Mass and prayers. Pall bearers and business houses observed the hour. interment followed in the Catholic cemetery. Relatives attended from Omaha Denver and St Francis Kansas.

Eight year old Chris Jurgens son of John Jurgens and grandson of the late H. G. Miller was fatally injured Friday morning after a tractor incident near Weyerts. He rode on a tool box when the wheel ran over him. He died at five Friday morning after being conscious all the time. Funeral will be Sunday at Weyerts church with burial in the church cemetery. The community mourns a bright and good little boy who was a general favorite.

Will Walsh of Sidney suffered a brain concussion a badly bruised forehead and two broken wrists after being hurled twenty five feet from a hay stacker trip rope mechanism on Saturday. He was found unconscious and later revived as his other injuries began to heal.

On Friday evening eight merry couples picnicked at Kreuger's and broke the record of a good time.
