Copper carbonate for prevention of smut in wheat
Practical farmers and agricultural experts largely agree on using copper carbonate to prevent smut in wheat. Proper preparation and application per agricultural college directions yields best results, with easier use and less risk than formaldehyde. The copper carbonate dust can be applied anytime and stored until planting, remaining on seed to prevent infection. Formaldehyde kills spores but evaporates and risks reinfection from bins and equipment.
