Exchange Pupil Returns After One Year Abroad
Julie Wertz of Chappell returned home after a year as a Rotary exchange student in The Netherlands. She stayed with four families near Amsterdam and noted Dutch teens balance sports with homework, favor biking and walking over cars, and live at a slower pace. She praised Dutch language learning and the close, discussion‑oriented family life, and described Amsterdam as friendly, The Hague as sophisticated, and Rotterdam as rebuilt after WWII.

Good Samaritans Rescue Flooded Car in Underpass
Last week heavy rains turned downtown streets into rivers for about two hours. Two Good Samaritans waded to the back of a car trapped in the 13th Ave underpass to attach lines as the vehicle floated. Owner Clifford Wolf said a truck’s back wash stalled the engine after he entered the rising water. By Friday Sidney gauge readings reached about 3.5 inches with higher totals later. Farmers called the rainfall a Godsend, though Wolf faced difficulties.
