Panhandle Wheat Harvest Seen Far Above Initial Estimates

Western Nebraska reports suggest Panhandle winter wheat yields far exceed early estimates with many farms recording 40 to 60 bushels per acre. Farmers, elevators, and observers peg total value well above $40 million as hail damaged areas varied. Northwest Nebraska counties report historical yields of 40 bushels plus, with some fields spared by storms.

Insurance Center Door Prize Winners

Door prize winners at the Insurance Center and Kokjer's Used Car Headquarters opening were announced by hosts Dick Smith and Tom Kokjer. First prize a barbecue pit went to Mrs Don Larson. Second prizes of desk sets went to L. E. Wamsley Jack Lowe Mrs Harold Spiker Harry Sparks Mrs Julia Mueller and Mrs Frank G. Baker. They urged visitors to stop in to inspect the new location.

Boxer Archie Wins in 147-Pound Class at Camp Ripley

In the 147-pound division Archie won a split decision over Bill Anderson of Sioux City Iowa securing the honor. General Williams presented the trophy as Warrant Officer Donald Mueller scored a win with a twenty seven inch pike. Nebraska National Guard units left Camp Ripley for home stations ending annual training. Maj Gen Guy Henninger announced a new TV series Inside Football to air mid September in Omaha Lincoln Hastings. Sidney men departed Ripley Saturday for arrival Sunday afternoon and Monday morning. Company K again had a strong year at Camp Ripley.

Son Of Sidney Couple Drowns In Colorado Lake

George M Louderbach of Denver, son of Mr and Mrs Harry Louderbach of Sidney, drowned Saturday afternoon at Granby Lake Colorado while on a fishing trip. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 pm from First Methodist Church with Rev R L Townsend officiating. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Survivors include his wife Virginia Mae and three children Monte George Steven Rae and Cyntha Lee, all at home. A more complete obituary will be carried in a later issue of The Telegraph.

Local Sidney Wakes To Overcast Sky And Warm Temperatures

Sidney residents woke to overcast skies and cool breeze after two days of 90s. A trace of rain measured about .23 inches, with a warm 64 degree low last night. Forecast calls for generally fair weather with isolated thunder showers tonight and Tuesday, highs near 90s and night lows around 60 to 65, little change for five days with brief locally heavy rain possible.

Cycle Rider Hurt In Highway Upset

William Chambers of Sidney suffered severe injuries when his motorcycle left Highway 30 and toppled into a ditch at 7 45 am Saturday. He has eight broken ribs a paralyzed right arm and extensive bruising while in Cheyenne County Memorial Hospital. The cause remains undetermined and the bike was valued at $25.

Boy Trapped Under Tables Is Rescued by Fire Squad

Two year old Robbie became wedged under several card tables in a Sidney home after locking himself inside a closet. Rescue workers Francis Stone George Ott and Max Childers cut through the door and freed him unhurt. The boy greeted his rescuers with a simple hello once freed.

Suit Seeks Balance Due on Cheyenne County Real Estate

Roy H. Quincy Jr as administrator of Cora B. Carter's estate and heirs sues Jack A Peters and Florence Ina Roach in Cheyenne County District Court seeking $9,600 balance on a real estate sale. The contract stated $17,600 total, $8,000 paid, with the remaining amount past due and payable. The petition asks the court to compel payment of the outstanding debt.
