The Denver area woman Bertha Neubauer died from gas fumes in her apartment. Her father John Daugherty and Grace Daugherty were informed after the death, with the body moved to the Neubauer home for arrangements. Local condolences poured in as officials prepare a fuller obituary next week.
Eugene Ribble returns to work after knee sprain. Four new firemen hired in the fourth district as traffic grows. W. T. Berry, Division Master Mechanic, visits Sidney via Cheyenne. J. B. Sheldon, UP telegraph chief, dies in Omaha at 52 from abscess. A. J. Walsh, veteran conductor, dies in Denver after pneumonia. wife improving. Wreck cleanup delays No. 19. Sunol debris halted both tracks. Several officials and relatives noted in Sidney and nearby towns.
At Fred C Johnson's son's farm south of town a thunderbolt struck during dinner. A flame tongue crawled up a stack of shocks where lightning followed a pole and ignited the stack. The fire was quickly extinguished as onlookers debated nature's vagaries.
Mr and Mrs Helphinstine, moving from Cheyenne to Sheridan, arrived in Sidney to catch a northbound train. The husband collapsed as the train pulled in, was taken to Le Grande hotel, died Thursday afternoon at 3 30 while unconscious after a recent Civil War service and multiple operations. He belonged to G A R, A O U W, and K P. The widow and brother-in-law escorted the body back to Cheyenne. Neighbors and lodge brothers aided in the hours of mourning. One touch of nature makes the whole world kin.
The Board of Village Trustees will hold a special meeting this afternoon to open bids for a new electric power plant building, electric lighting plant and steam heating plant. Village Clerk Neubauer will receive bids up to noon. Estimated total cost is 26 500, with 4 500 for the power building, 16 500 for lighting, and 5 500 for steam heating.
F. E. Wilvert, a walker on stilts from Harrisburg, Pa., struck Sidney last Saturday while en route to the Panama Exposition. At 115 days out, he had covered 1,985 miles of a 3,500 mile trip and expects to reach Frisco in February 1915. His wife and daughter travel by train between stoppages, while he gives stilt performances and sells souvenir postal cards to fund the journey.
Albert McCord a 22 year old painter died Friday morning after attempting to board a westbound freight train and being crushed between cars. He wore a boxer's outfit beneath clothes and his California father authorized burial at public expense. The body was taken to Harper and Wright undertaking rooms.
Last Tuesday evening a large ape escaped from a circus and roamed the alleys of the east side causing fear among several women. Four circus workers restrained the animal after it injured a man with a severe cut to the hand before the beast was finally subdued.
The newly reorganized Sidney Military Band will perform at the band stand Sunday from seven to eight o'clock. Delays in receipt of an invoice for new music may affect the program, but the band expects to provide ample entertainment for their first appearance.
John Hinrichs of Weyerts was seen in the city on Tuesday. The brief item notes his presence and the midweek timing, with no additional events or details provided.

P Maginnis and family of Kim ball were in Sidney on Wednesday driving their car as they traveled toward the state's eastern region.
Attorney Clayton Radcliffe conducts a road test of a Saxon roadster on the smooth streets around town, pushing the car through its pace to evaluate performance and handling.
Fred Haiston arrived from Denver for a short visit with his parents, County Commissioner Haiston and his wife, during the latter part of last week.
W S Doran departed Wednesday morning for Lusk Wyoming to visit his sister before returning home to Toppenish Washington.
Misses Anna and Katherine Doyle and Esther Moore of Greeley Nebraska are visiting relatives of the McFadden family. L Jessen and wife left early in the week for Yellowstone Park and will also visit Salt Lake City before returning.
J L Tewell formerly of Omaha and Clayton Radcliffe, both of this city, formed a partnership and opened law offices on the second floor of the Gapen building. Mrs John Cox, who has been visiting her daughter Mrs Henry Erdwins, departed Tuesday for Neosha Falls Kansas.
County Treasurer Fishman was confined to his home for several days recovering from heat prostration while in the eastern region. The incident prompted health precautions and a brief absence from official duties as he regained strength.
Mark Spanogle and J L Johnson of Bridgeport arrived Thursday morning after attending the Democratic state convention in Columbus.
C W Hornaday and family embarked on an auto camping trip toward the west with no set return time and no specific destination. They expect a jolly time and a good rest, enjoying spontaneous travel and leisure away from home.
Ogallala boys beat Sidney 5 to 2 at Ogallala last Sunday morning. Batteries were Marlett Harrington for Ogallala and Closman Fine for Sidney. A return game in Sidney is set for August 9 forming another chapter in the series.
Mrs Shirley Wilson and her children from Omaha are visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs E W Zlebert.
Miss Valeska Neubauer arrived Tuesday morning after spending part of her summer vacation in Denver.
Miss Mabel Wallick returned Thursday from a two months stay in Lincoln and Omaha. Her cousins Alta and Dorothy Morford accompanied her home for a week’s visit after which they will go on to Seattle Washington.
Dr. L G Simon traveled to Omaha on Wednesday and came back Thursday with his sister Miss Sadie Simon who has been in a hospital for five weeks. It is hoped the cooler nights here will aid her full recovery.
Mrs Ernest Kruse and her mother Mrs F J Dudley arrived home Thursday from Toledo Ohio where they had been for the latter's health. They were very fatigued by the long trip but otherwise benefited and friends are glad to greet them after several weeks away.
The Robinson Show last Tuesday impressed with orderly acts and overall satisfaction. Although the menagerie was modest, the ring acts shone, traveling from Burlington to Union Pacific siding toward the east for the engagement.
Last week a county filing list omitted Frank X. Rihn the Memocratic candidate for County Commissioner District Two and he is expected to influence the race. J. D. McMillen was mislisted as a Republican candidate for County Superintendent but filed for the Democratic nomination.

The Cheyenne County Sunday School Convention met at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sidney starting July 27. Sessions featured talks by Rev. Trygstad and Miss Brown, a Bible and public schools discussion, world tour and stereoptical lecture on Japan and Korea, plus reports from participating Sunday schools and cordial thanks to the organizing president Mrs. Trognitz and local church helpers. The event aimed to boost attendance and inspire countywide religious education.

The Omaha Bee reports petitions filed to nominate George J. Hunt of Bridgeport for chief justice of the Nebraska Supreme Court. About 3,500 voters from numerous counties signed, including many leading attorneys. Hunt, Maryland native, long lawyer with eastern and western Nebraska ties, helped develop irrigation and led the Belmont canal project in western Nebraska.
Jas Windsor and Esther Wilder both of Rawlins Wyoming were married at the Lutheran parsonage on July 30 with Rev A H Trygstad officiating in a brief ceremony.
Herman Jensen and Janette Richardson of Omaha were married by County Judge Gapen at his office on July 25. The ceremony united the couple in a small city setting with the officiating judge overseeing the event.
