North Vietnamese tanks seize Saigon in victory parade

North Vietnamese tanks and armored vehicles rolled to the presidential palace as South Vietnamese crowds cheered. In front of the National Assembly building a police colonel shot himself after saluting a memorial statue. Firing near City Hall and at the National Assembly sent civilians scrambling for safety while Viet Cong and North Vietnamese forces occupied key streets, with evacuees leaving ships on the Saigon River. A Vietnamese photographer described the tense moment and promised safety for residents.

Flood zone building myths cleared up for Sidney

A Nebraska NRC flood plain engineer dispelled fears about federal flood insurance rules restricting Sidney development. He said the flood hazard area is developable and new studies within 14 months could narrow the zone, with a Type 15 study to map updated flood elevations and actuarial insurance rates, reflecting dams and land treatments.

State boards plan outlines Nebraska technical colleges future

Arlo Wirth announces a comprehensive 18 month plan to guide Nebraska technical community colleges as threefold institutions. Bruce Vizina Dies at 12 After Auto Crash

Bruce Allen Vizina 12, of Sidney, died Tuesday at DePaul Hospital in Cheyenne Wyoming five weeks after a car crash. Son of Charlotte Vizina and the late Donald Vizina, he was born Oct 30, 1962 in Sidney and attended South Elementary. Survived by three brothers Brad Brian Brett, two sisters Lynette Vizina and Mrs Jeffrey Policky, and grandparents Harvey Vizina and Edith Schmitt. Funeral 10 a.m. Friday at St Patrick's Church with Gehrig and Son Funeral Home. burial Greenwood Cemetery. Rosary 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the church. Memorials to family choice.

Telegraph fund aids Vizina family in medical bills

East access route work set to start June 9

A 3.5 mile east access road from the I 80 interchange to US 30 will begin grading and culvert work on June 9 per a Department of Roads spokesman. Platte Valley Construction Co. won grading for 1,197,147 and culverts for 138,966. Capital Bridge Co. won two bridges for 596,144.

Uncertain Panhandle Weather With Light Snow

Light snow fell in northwest Nebraska as a low pressure system in Minnesota drew a northwest flow across the state. A weak high pressure ridge was forecast to bring cooler temperatures on Thursday with lows around 30s and highs in the 50s to 60s, while Alliance and Kimball reported a low near 20s and Beatrice recorded a 69 degree high on Tuesday.

City rejects request to rezone two Sidney lots

Sidney City Council unanimously denied former resident John Scholl's bid to rezone two Jackson Street lots from two family to multi family use. Neighbors voiced fears of lower property values and blight from four plexes, while Scholl urged growth with four unit buildings. Planning Commission had also recommended rejection. In other business, council appointed ex city attorney Frank Mattoon to review a Interstate Commerce Commission ruling on Continental Trailways bus schedules and impact on Sidney.
