Pay-As-You-Go School Levy Vote Set for Monday
Kimball County High School District voters will decide at a public meeting Monday night whether to approve a five mill building fund levy. The plan allows annual levies for ten years or until one million dollars is raised, with reductions possible if not needed. The district has funded expansions from operating funds, so new construction would come from the levy rather than the general fund.

Wheat Stands Lag as Farmers Assess Damaged Nebraska Fields
Winter wheat in Nebraska faces abandonment in some districts as farmers weigh options after harsh weather and late planting. Duane Foote notes poor fall growth and a shallow root system leave fields vulnerable to wind and frost. Farmers should judge remaining stand vigor plant distribution and weed prospects, using a South Dakota method of one strong plant per inch in 12 to 14 inch rows.

Thinner corn stands can yield well despite losses
University of South Dakota experts note that stands at 65 percent or higher can still reach near normal yields in some years. Vigorous surviving plants may compensate, but very low vigor plants are likely unproductive. Patchy stands invite weed problems and management guidance stresses timely 2 4 D spraying.
