A 103 day trial on C A Rodekohr farm compares self feeding and hand feeding for 19 fall pigs each. Self fed pigs gain 165 pounds per pig at 1.6 lb daily and cost 65.19 per 100 pounds gained, while hand fed gain 151.3 pounds per pig at 1.47 lb daily and cost 5.50 per 100 pounds. The self feeder uses less feed overall to raise 20 hogs than hand feeding for 19. The study is conducted with Madison County agent cooperation and will continue next winter. Lime for preserving eggs is discussed. Eggs laid in April May preserve better with air sieved lime in water than water glass. Use clean eggs in jars, lime stirred in, cover with solution, keep cool, eight months’ shelf life.
