Erratic Spring Snow Sparks Debate on County Consolidation
A Nebraska proposal by State Senator Sam Klaver to consolidate small counties faces firm opposition from Senator George Fleming. Fleming argues economics do not improve with mergers, citing minimal official cuts and hardship for rural residents. A spring snowstorm disrupted schedules, causing school closings and delaying Farm Progress Day events. Temperature records fell across Scottsbluff and nearby towns, with five inches of snow on the ground and varying moisture reports from Lodge Pole to Potter.
