Rural hospital specialist to visit Nebraska over Medicare fears

A rural hospital specialist from the Senate Finance Committee will spend two to three days in Nebraska late May meeting with Nebraska Hospital Association officials. The visit follows NHA concerns over Medicare reimbursement policies for hospitals with attached nursing homes, which the association says cost Nebraskans about 2.5 million dollars annually. Darold Hendee, Sidney Memorial Hospital administrator, chairs the NHA committee studying the issue. The associate says regulations misprice nursing home care versus hospital care, creating a net loss that must be offset by hospital operations.
