Citizens celebrate the opening of Sidney's new electric light plant with Mrs. Chas Callahan breaking a champagne bottle to start the first current. The system improves by the second night and many residents order lighting after seeing the demonstration. The juvenile band plays under arc lights as the town leaves darkness for light.
The Teachers' Association gathered Saturday with about sixty attendees and keen interest. Papers on topics such as new teachers, curriculum, and instruction were read, and Prof. Danforth spoke on responsibility for pupils' futures. several members participated in discussion. The event was noted as pleasurable despite Hon. J L McIntosh's absence.
Denver representatives Brown and McVale discuss linking Colorado Telephone Company with the Independent Telephone Company. Agreement calls for Colorado lines from Sterling to Winston, a 22 mile span, with local crews building 18 miles from Sidney to connect. Patrons gain access to Colorado points through the Independent network.

Notice to the public that all outstanding bills to Buzza and Putthoff must be paid at the saloon of P. H. N. Schlesinger, corner Front and Rose streets, or credit will not be given. No other parties are authorized to collect.
A tramp burglar broke into Rev Father Sullivan's home while he was away in Devel county and the servant rested on a possible theft. A gold chalice valued near one hundred dollars and about 75 in cash were reportedly taken but the chalice was secured by the priest before leaving. A note was attempted but not left. The intruder also visited the Methodist and Episcopal rectories and several businesses, with no clear object. One man claimed to be a barber selling tools.
The Maccabees held a very pleasant Tuesday ball with lodge members and many friends. After the session the hall opened to guests who joined in the social hour and sought to honor the fraternal spirit. Robert Barlow appeared with his unique jewel case prize from a prior guessing contest. A battenburg centerpiece raffled to Park Salle added to the evening’s amusements. The Sir Knights are earning a reputation as royal entertainers.
The acting commissioner of the General Land Office ruled that filings made between April 28 and June 28 1904 under the old law cannot be followed by additional filings under the Kinkaid law which took effect June 28 1904. Many entries in the land office are challenged and supporters hope the ruling will be modified to keep the filings undisturbed.

Washington dispatch reports WA Richards plans consolidating western land offices due to low business and $4000 cut in maintenance funding. Sidney Neb. office likely merged with North Platte after July, reflecting statewide retrenchment and closures.

Afternoon meditations titled Praying Believing and Doing have drawn interest, with closing Holy Communion services Sunday morning at 7 30. Rumors of a rail line from ocean to ocean involve Union Pacific Oregon Short Line Chicago and Northwestern and New York Central. Coal stocks at Sidney North Platte and Cheyenne are noted. A 25 cent baking powder offer includes free cut glassware.

Residents attend church events, club meetings, and civic affairs as deputy assessors and real estate deals surface. A nursery shipment, an arm fracture, and tax delinquency actions are noted alongside a streetcar of new phone listings.
