Bureau Sees Little Merit in Missouri River Water Plan
Senator McGovern cites a Bureau of Reclamation report that finds diverting Missouri River water from South Dakota to Texas should be postponed for further study. He argues pumping costs to irrigate the Great Plains would be excessive and the water supply overestimated, with power needs far exceeding the Missouri River hydro system.

Panhandle And State Wheat Outlook Good
The spring forecasts point to a strong winter wheat crop across Nebraska with the Panhandle showing good moisture from recent snow. Federal and state figures cite 88.99 million bushels expected for Nebraska, with 3.296 million acres planted, while 1967 yields were 88.11 million bushels. Subsoil moisture remains above average and insect damage is not expected to cause large losses. Continuous winter snow boosted prospects, though more moisture is still needed to sustain the crop through the season.
