Wellman reports after attending the 1969 Outlook Conference in Washington with leaders including Secretary Clifford Hardin. Scotland Yard recruits Scots for London police
Scotland Yard officials say recruiting Scots is aimed at diversifying the London Metropolitan Police of over 20 000 with plans to add 5 000 more. They send inspectors to northeast Scotland to recruit cadets, run ads in Aberdeen and Elgin, and note about one quarter of the force already hails from Scotland. The drive arises from unemployment in Scotland and the belief Scots are level headed and well educated.
