A district court term opens Monday with Judge Norris presiding over about forty minor cases. The docket includes names such as Gustav Runge vs A B Persinger, Charles Trognis vs Cyrus Stewart, and The State of Nebraska cases, among others. Also notes progress on composing an efficient docket.
An 19th century style ad touts a salve for cuts bruises sores ulcers rheum fever sores tetter chapped hands chilblains corns and other skin eruptions. It guarantees perfect satisfaction or money refunded. Price 25 cents per box. Sold by Wm. F. Bassett.
To sympathizing friends who aided during the illness of our late husband and father we express heartfelt thanks. Mrs J H Scherer and children.
Mr John H Scherer died after a lingering illness at his Mud Springs home on March 27 1897 at 6 30 pm Bright's disease. He was 65 years 10 months and 26 days. Remains were brought to Sidney for burial with relatives and friends. Service was at 2 pm at the grave led by Rev J A Slingley. He was born May 1831 in Orange County NC moved with parents in 1834 to Montgomery County Illinois, lived in Cheyenne County NE since 1889. Survived by wife Nancy J Peter whom he married Nov 24 1853 and nine children seven living Mary Hodges Johnnie Jennie Millie Clara Flora Hattie. Funeral attendees included all except Mrs Hodges and Mrs McCollum. Community mourns a valued member.
The State Normal School introduces two new study courses and strengthens existing programs including post graduate work. The courses prepare graduates for teaching in Nebraska schools and for kindergarten training. The winter term total enrollment reaches 553 with 44 Nebraska counties and six other states represented.
