Pershing Denounces Dual Allegiance in Madison Square Meeting
General Pershing defined a line between Americanism and dual allegiance at a 16,000-strong Madison Square Garden gathering. He urged no foreign loyalty while welcoming those who emigrate to patriotism, calling for one tongue and one flag. The event opened a series backed by the American Legion with messages from President Harding and Secretary Hughes.
