Lincoln County Idaho Board approves Otis rock pier claim

County commissioners adjourned session reviews M T Otis claim for rock piers at Peterson bridge totaling 320.87 with warrant to road and bridge fund. They appoint Bliss and Pagari precinct registrars, approve ShoShone liquor licenses, and set 1902 tax levy rates including state and county expenses, schools, roads, and bond interest.

Democratic convention yields slim female delegate presence

Fifth District figures Joe Rich D L Evans led a push to nominate John S Barrett for secretary of state via a five county caucus. The effort failed after the governorship settled, leaving Bassett to victory amid a tight race. Only two women attended the convention as delegates Mrs H Hayes of Ada and Mrs Rose Baugh of Lincoln.

Weiser World reports that a mine once rich at Idaho’s 400 foot level yielded about 4.7 million dollars, with 1.5 million more extracted before abandonment at the 900 foot level, reflecting a familiar Migfary.

Shoshone Falls Power Plant Promoters Fail

Advices from New York City say Dowe and Beekman, mine promoters who financed the Shoshone Falls project, failed for 290,900 dollars. The sheriff sold their Wall Street personal property at public auction. The plant, once controlled by Hollister, Dowe and Beckman, has passed to stronger men with more capital, and work is to be pushed rapidly.

Rt Rev Bishop A J Glorieux of Boise led first mass and preached at church services and confirmed several youths. Father Godschall read second mass, Rev Dr Conrad of Worster delivered eloquent sermon at the Methodist church, Rev Bowler preached both morning and evening at the Baptist church. crowd attended well and praised the talks.

Hollister Party Heads for Thunder Mountain Mining Project

H L Hollister returns from New York via Shoshone with a party including Chas Perrine of Chicago William Allen White of Emporia Kans and W H Lucas of Beaumont Texas They plan to enter Thunder Mountain to finalize immediate development work on Big Creek properties and expect the venture to fuel the nation s greatest mining camp. Hollister reports strong backing from New York friends and favorable expert reports and showings.

Penitentiary Trial Begins Over Abortion Charge

Hearing in the prosecution of Warden Charles E. Arney and Prison Physician J K Dubois on the charge of performing an abortion on Josie Kensler opened in Boise yesterday. Damaging evidence has been presented and the case appears to be highly contested as it proceeds.

Populist ticket named for Idaho governor race

The populist state convention at Boise nominated a full ticket except two offices with D H Andrews of Ada county as Governor and James Gann of Ada named for Supreme Judge. Other offices list Blaine Ada and Nez Perce counties with officials, while the piece notes Farris’s prior role on power plant projects and expectations for speedy Shoshone Falls completion under his supervision.

Suit Seeks 13000 Over Alleged Broken Horse Purchase Contract

Attorney Ed A Walters for A F Work files in district court against Chas Gridley and two Gridley sons seeking 13000 damages for non-fulfillment of a horse purchase contract. Separate suits against Gridley for 5500 each. claim that stock delivered did not match the agreed horses and included non saleable stock. Case set to be heard on the 22nd with Hon Guy C Barnum representing the Gridlers.

Village Board Meeting in Shoshone Idaho September 1902

The village board met in regular session with TH Gooding F A Burkill J W Wheeler present. Absentees were J W White W H Baugh. Wheeler acted as temporary chair. Water Commissioner N C Jensen reported $174 collected for water tax. A motion instructed the clerk to publish notices warning stock owners that after Sept 16 1992 unrestrained stock will be placed in the city pound and owners fined under village ordinance No 4.
