Pleasant Valley Literary Society Debates Senator Election
The Pleasant Valley Literary Society met Saturday in December with President B R Shimp and Miss Winifred Condit presiding. A lively program featured Pearl and Bryan Yaden in a Japanese song, followed by a debate on whether U S senators should be elected by direct vote. Mayor Burkhard argued against satisfaction with many congressmen while Minnie Yaden opposed his path. Shimp delivered a strong address but wandered into a personal hobby, and the audience enjoyed the discourse. A spirited discussion is hoped for the next meeting on abolishing the saloons.
